Long long ago, a big drought struck the earth. As a result, all the rivers, streams and wells dried up. And large areas of prairie and forest withered for lack of water. Subsequently, countless inhabitants and animals died. There was not a single tree left as far as your eyes can see. And there was not a rabbit running in the wildness. What a bleak scene!
One morning, a young girl went out with a pot, hoping to find some water for her sick mother. The trip proved fruitless. It’s no surprise that water was nowhere to be found in such hot weather. The sun was like a large fire ball, scorching the earth. The girl was too tired to make her way and fell down to the ground, asleep. Several hours has passed without her knowing it. When she woke up, she looked around sensing something unusual. She found her pot filled with clean clear water. Surprised and excited, the girl promptly took up the pot and raised it to her lips, but then halted.
She thought of her mother seriously ill in bed. The water was far from enough for her. Without hesitation, the girl headed for home firmly holding the pot. She was in such a hurry that she tripped over a small dog which happened to be running between her legs. The dog barked painfully. Ignoring the dog, the girl bent to pick up the pot. She thought the pot had been broken into pieces. On the contrary, the pot stood there, intact, with water still full to the brim. The girl poured a little water into her palm and let the injured dog drink it. The dog licked it up and instantly it became lively again. The second time the girl reached the pot, she found the wooden pot changed into a silver one.
The girl took the pot home and handed it to her mother. The mother said in a faint voice: “ I’ going to die. You’d better drink it yourself.” With these words, the mother handed the pot to her daughter. In a twinkling of an eye, the pot changed from silver to gold. Without any interest in this, the girl can’t bear the thirst any longer. She was about to put her mouth to the rim of the pot when a passer-by came in from outside their house. No doubt, he must have come to beg for some water. The girl swallowed her saliva and passed the pot to the stranger. The stranger was very grateful and left. Suddenly seven large diamonds burst forth from the pot, and then followed a stream of crystal spring gushing out.
What all this is about? The seven diamonds rose higher and higher, reaching the top of the sky. It is said that they turned into seven bright stars scattering in the shape of a bear. People call it Great Bear constellation.
